RE: RV resorts/camping in BC...best times??

BC is like Oregon - lots to do in lots of dif places.
In Vancouver there is the PNE late August - a big fair with lots to do in a day. times to come are May 1 - October 15 ;)
Okanagon is hot and dry, coast is wet(er) and lusher. Northern BC is amazing for wildlife. West side of Vancouver Island is great for fishing. Eastern BC has more amazing mountains and scenery.
What kind of stuff do you want to do? hike, culture, wildlife, ski? etc ;)

RE: Siena Motorhomes

Krista being small shop doesn't necessarily mean more risk - look at born Free or LazyDays or Bigfoot - all quality builds on much lower volumes. Sure Winnebago and Monaco have long histories of living through ups and downs - that should count for something. Frankly it's anybody's guess who will and won't survive.
btw there is no such thing as a perfect motorhome ;) you just need to find what you can compromise and what you can't.
If I understand correctly everything except AC is run off hte batteries and then those are recharged via shore power. So if it will run on the road, it should run in a 30 amp site. Dryer and AC are likely not on that list but I'm only guessing at that.

RE: Coachmen Aurora didn't make it to 2009

with MH sales deep into the black tank sludge I can see why MH manufacturers reduce their costs. I wonder though if that choice was due to slow sales of the floorplan or just market conditions? Full wall slides have had their detractors for sure.

I must agree, this board is a wealth of info. I've had arcane questions answered in less than 5 minutes with detailed correct info. Gotta love that.

RE: 4th of July blow out

Gotta love it when people do what they say. Even if the reason they are doing it sucks!
Question, did you put the extensions back on or will you replace them with brass or ss longer valves?

RE: Coach size

FWIW if you ask the Park they'll say you're too big. I have a 35' and have been in 18' or less sites. Yes I filled it full but I fit "inside the lines" IMHO alot of State Parks use TT + TV to decide if you'll fit. IE 18' TT +20' TV = 38' actual RV space (even if you hang over the curb with your rear overhang.
and since this is the A forum I'll offer this Class C's with the E450 type chassis are fairly maxxed out at 31' whereas the same engine and tranny in my 35' F53 chassis isn't yet. This would be the same chassis more or less on the smaller F53 wheelbases too. Wheelbase being the only thing that is really different.
A's give you more Carrrying Capacity and larger tank sizes as well as more useable space per foot.

RE: The Future of Motor Homes

Those of us already in the RV world will figure out a way to stay in. those that are casually thinking probably have been scared off. I know I'm going to buy a new coach - 15 years from now. But that isn't because of fuel, it's because I bought the one to fit our needs till then already.
Fuel cost is an emotional issue and so is RVing. Despite the real math under the covers (Depreciation being more $$ than fuel for most of us) Fuel is an easily seen expense and it sucks. So those that are not wholly committed might stop. The rest of us "crazy" people will keep enjoying and find a way.
Weak management structures who extended their company too far will fail. Strong companies who have been through this before and understand who their customer is will survive. Maybe not like how they look today but then look at a 70's Winnie and one today. They don't look the same either ;)

RE: BIG TiMe downsize!

slow down, camp closer to home and do that math, exactly how much of a beating will you take selling your nice TT for a newer and likely more expensive one? Bet that will buy alot of gas!!!
as for fitting into sites, well that is why we traded our lovely Crossroads TT and went MH - that part of the downsize I can completely understand. Weight/fuel, prob not worth the conversion cost (Sell current at loss + Depreciation of new one)

RE: Which lightweight tt would be best for a Subaru Forester?

IMHO your best best is a tent. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but 2200# loaded to camp really doesn't give you much. That and the Forrester really isn't set up to tow on a regular basis IMHO. I'd rather save my $$ and get a really nice tent and get more square footage than you'd get in any 2200# TT I've ever seen.
Or better yet find an older F250, find a Slide In enjoy. Probably both could be had for less $$ than the TT you've listed. More space too.

RE: Canadian border with popup truck camper

Well RCMP aside, if you've ever spent any time in Texas you certainly could come to that conclusion. Us Canadians won't really believe it but the first time you enter a business and there is a 36" x 36" sign stating that firearms aren't allowed inside you'll come to believe that just maybe a few Texans carry ;) and this was a corporate type business - and OFFICE for goodness sakes, not some BBQ joint or Bar.
And if you think that border guards on either side of the border don't use profiling to do random searches you really must be naive ;) Sometimes it is good to be a polite middle age white guy!

RE: Quality Coaches

FRont
Engine
Diesel
As for the OP - Forrest River is a good name, Itasca/Winnie (same same, different fabric and paint) and Damon has it's lovers and haters. Not saying Damon is bad, just when we looked at the Damon bunk vs the Itasca bunk the Itasca at that level felt better built and had more solidness. Having said that Itsaca was more $$ too.
Just my $.02

Bamfield - Poett Nook - a fishing camp that just happens to have a place to stick an RV or 2. 2 hours down a logging road but worth the dust and vibrations!

RE: Harrison Hot Springs BC - Sasquatch

Agreed, if you plan on anything go to Sasquatch. Lakeside will fit you as we've been there and going back in a few weeks.
as for actually going into any hot springs IMHO the public pool is just that - a pool. Big deal ;(. Harrison Hotel OTOH is nice luxury but not camping nor accessible unless you're staying at the hotel.
If you're going for the springs don't bother. If you're coming up here to see other stuff, try Rolley Lake - very beautiful and better hiking IMHO.
FWIW Bigfoot is probably the best choice but that isn't saying much. Provincial Park with no services is still the better bet - you at least get a big site and the lake.

those plastic blocks don't last all that long with a coach weighing over 20K. I know because empty I don't crush 'em full I do ;)

RE: Wenberg State Park in Washington

Don't bother!. reserved there a couple weeks ago and the site we had was "slight slope" that = about 10 degrees. Sites are tight, we're 35' and we FILLED our spot. We stayed about 10 minutes said "this is stupid" and drove off. There are many nicer places in the area.
JMHO of course ;)

RE: Gray tank oders?

If it is the site sewer, probably not much you can do. if it is your grey tank - dump some chemicals in and fill and let them do their thing.
Otherwise, just dump once a day and leave it closed.
